Take rigorous academic curriculum. Take college admissions test (ACT, SAT). Meet with high school counselor or your college consultant. Begin your college search:
Develop a list of questions to ask College Fairs College visits at your high school Personal recommendations Computer searches Videos College catalogs
Start college visits:
Meet with College Admissions Counselor Take a tour with a student Meet with professor in your academic area Sit in on a class Talk with coaches, music directors, other activities people
Summer before Senior Year
Continue college visits. Ask friends about their first year of college. Organize and read the college literature received.
Senior Year
Continue rigorous college prep curriculum. Compile a senior resume. Retake ACT or SAT if necessary. Also achievement tests (AP, SAT II) Apply to colleges early (consult your counselor)
Acquire applications Fill out and keep a copy of completed applications
Follow your high school's procedure and send:
Application and fee High school transcript Test scores (ACT, SAT) Essay (if required) Recommendations (as specified by college)
Follow up to check that all materials arrive at college. Visit or revisit colleges. Investigate scholarships that may be available at your colleges:
Academic Music Theatre Sports Others
Fill out additional forms required for scholarships. Look for local/private scholarships. Fill out required financial aid materials after January 1st (ASAP). Select your college by May 1st. Send necessary deposit(s) and secure housing.
