Welcome to the Waukegan High School JROTC Web Site!

JROTC Clubs

  1. While not a requirement for successful completion of JROTC, extracurricular activities are an important part of our overall program. After-school activities give students the opportunity to be productive members of a group and to develop teamwork and leadership skills needed later in life.

  2. Some of the JROTC Clubs include attendance at JROTC Summer Camp, marching in local parades, or taking part in various fund raising activities. Cadets may also participate in competitive clubs such as the Color Guard, Drill Team, or Rifle Team. Each of the competitive teams practice before or after school several days each week during their season. On average, each team competes in approximately 8 to 10 events each year. Competitions may require the team to depart on Friday and not return till Saturday or sometimes Sunday. Both males and females may participate in all JROTC extracurricular activities.

    1. The Color Guard is a special organization that represents the Bulldog Regiment by ceremonially presenting the Colors (National Flag) at school and community events. They appear at football games, basketball games, community parades, and special functions hosted by Waukegan High School and community organizations.

    2. The Drill Team is a special team, which represents the Bulldog Regiment, marching as a unit during school and community events. They may also participate in competitions throughout Illinois and Indiana, as well as the national competition in Florida. The drill teams are graded for precision, synchronization and accuracy of movement during drill and ceremonies.

    3. The Rifle Team trains for and competes in rifle matches against JROTC and other high school rifle teams in Illinois and other states. Individual team members, as well as the entire team, are eligible to progress through state and national level competitions. The team consists of male and female shooters who are trained to fire 22.caliber rifles and air rifles.

    4. The Drum Corps is a vital part of the Regiment. Their job is to keep the regiment in step while marching. Their musical expertise is extremely important to our successful performance in parades and ceremonies. They practice before and after school and perform at school and community events.

    5. "Raiders" builds expertise in outdoor adventure and survival skills. They participate in P.T practice 3 times a week, they also participate in wilderness survival training, map reading, and learn orienteering. They also participate in community service projects.
