Waukegan High School offers a variety of AP courses including AP Literature. AP stands for Advanced Placement. Students who score well on the AP test in the spring can earn college credit; however, the Communications Department does not require students to take the exam.
More importantly, the AP Lit class prepares students for college-level reading-sometimes up to 125 pages per week-and college-level writing. If you welcome a challenge and love to read and write, register for the class.
Here are some sample titles and assignments that are part of the year-long AP course:
Frankenstein
Metamorphosis
Lonelines of the Long-Distance Runner
Hamlet
Crime and Punishment
The Sound and the Fury
Oedipus Rex
Additional outside reading
Extensive poetry analysis
In-class writing once a week
Ten-to-twelve page literary analysis paper
