For the past 4 years, the CSP American Studies classes have competed in the Illinois Congressional Hearing Competition. After studying the Constitution as a "living, breathing" document that guidesand shapes our country, classes compete to represent the 10th Congressional District in a statewide competition. This competition is held at the Dirksen Federal Building in December.

Students explore the real context of the Constitution by working in groups to answer some complex questions about this marvelous document written more than 2 centuries ago. A typical question might be "How does the First Amendment Protect Freedom of Expression?" Student groups are responsible for a four minute presentation of their question with a 6 minute followup with questions from individuals on the judging panel.

Waukegan has had three consecutive second place finishes before taking third place in 2003. The experience is one that few will forget. Students discover the true meaning of teamwork as they work together through the entire process. Students are encouraged to leave no stone unturned in their research and preparation.
