Welcome back to a new school year. I am very happy to report that we are
starting the 2007-2008 school year on a very positive note. Carman-Buckner Elementary has made Adequate
Yearly Progress (AYP) for the third year in a row. Congratulations to all staff, students,
parents, and community partners who have helped us achieve this success. We look forward to even greater achievements
as we implement our education plan.
Last year was dedicated to building our capacity to deliver
educational services that address both behavior and educational student needs
in a three tier model. This will allow
us to provide interventions to those students that need them and to the intensity
needed to make a difference. We will
have interventions available at all three tiers (levels) to address both
educational and behavioral needs of students.
We will always consider both educational achievement and behavioral
issues when assessing student progress.
It is our expectation that these practices will lead to significant
improvement at Carman-Buckner Elementary.
I will keep you posted on our progress.

Note to Parents / Aviso para los Padres
We need your support this year more than ever. Our efforts to provide your child with an
intervention may require your assistance.
Please do everything you can to respond to our requests for
assistance. An example of something you
can help with may be to pick your child up from an after school program or drop
him off early for tutoring. All parents can
help with the following:
- Insure that students have their uniforms and white shirts (should have a collar) and blue pants (jeans are acceptable). Any shoes are acceptable, but no shoes with wheels of any type are allowed.
- Provide school supplies listed on the school
supply list for your child's grade level.
These should be replenished as needed during the year.
- Monitoring homework and the prescribed reading time for your child's grade level every day.
- Be sure students arrive on time everyday.
- Participate in our PTO organization. The PTO has been instrumental in helping the school in various ways. We hope to see more of you participating this year.
