Principal's Message

Welcome to the Carman-Buckner Elementary school website.

Hector Rodriguez

It is an honor and a pleasure to serve as principal of Carman-Buckner Elementary. As principal, my personal mission and vision is to create an environment conducive for students to learn and teachers to teach. My goals are:

To build cooperative, compassionate, and interactive teams aimed at accomplishing goals.
To develop, maintain, and enhance a positive school culture.
To create a school-wide atmosphere of mutual support and collaboration with staff, students, parents, and the Waukegan Public Schools community.

Note to Parents / Aviso para los Padres

We need your support this year more than ever. Our efforts to provide your child with an intervention may require your assistance. Please do everything you can to respond to our requests for assistance. An example of something you can help with may be to pick your child up from an after school program or drop him off early for tutoring. All parents can help with the following:

- Insure that students have their uniforms and white shirts (should have a collar) and blue pants (jeans are acceptable). Any shoes are acceptable, but no shoes with wheels of any type are allowed.

- Provide school supplies listed on the school supply list for your child's grade level. These should be replenished as needed during the year.

- Monitoring homework and the prescribed reading time for your child's grade level every day.

- Be sure students arrive on time everyday.

- Participate in our PTO organization. The PTO has been instrumental in helping the school in various ways. We hope to see more of you participating this year.

Philosophy & Mission

Philosophy: Carman Buckner Elementary Schoool, an educational community, is an integral part of the south side of Waukegan. Our school embraces the rich ethnic traditions, customs, and values of this urban community. Parents, guardians, and children are considered unique individuals and are provided with a school learning community that fosters collaboration and building of partnerships for the advancement of student achievement and success.

Mission: Carmen Buckner Elementary School will provide an educational framework that promotes optimal human growth and development. The staff at Carman Buckner Elementary School will provide an environment conducive to teaching, learning, motivating self-discipline, respect, high morale, and the ability to compete in a global community.
