About SPARK

Waukegan Public Schools was awarded the Carol M. White PEP grant in 2007!  With this grant, WPS saw a drastic change in it's Physical Education program.  At the elementary level, we received all sorts or new equipment which we thought we would never see.  But, the largest change change we have seen was having a curriculum we could be proud of.  We adopted SPARK, SPORTS PLAY ACTIVE RECREATION FOR KIDS!  A researched based curriculum that gets student's moving, and have fun doing so.  Every elementary PE teacher in Waukegan has been trained in the curriculum and receives additional trainings throughout the course of the school year.  Mr. Lindblom, along with Mrs. Michel of Washington Elementary, are the curriculum trainers for the district.

We won't be rolling out the ball, student's will not be waiting in line to have a turn, student's will not have to share a piece of equipment! Right as they walk in the door, they will be active!  We will waste little time getting organized, explaining instructions, and dealing with interruptions!  Instead, with SPARK, students will be more active than ever in class and hopefully outside of school as well!  Not just the athletes will enjoy class, but everyone!
