Fun Activities for Home
Your child's education is a partnership between you and the school. The best way to nurture progress is to work as a team. When your child brings home handouts take time to review what he/she is learning in school. Practice the activities at home for 5 or 10 minutes before dinner or bedtime, and remember to keep it fun.
You may not always have the time, so here are so things to do when you are on the go.
- When driving you can point out all the blue cars, you can count how many blue cars you see.
- When you sort laundry have your help separate the whites from the colors.
- When you bake cookies, review what you did first and last.
- It's ok to be silly, make funny faces in the mirror, funny sounds ask him if he can touch his tongue to his nose. This excersise helps with coordination.
- Sing songs, have them teach you a song they've learned in school.
- Practice picking up raisin's with just the pointer finger and thumb, count them.
- Jump around, try hop scotch or balancing on one foot.
- Discuss how objects are the same, and how they are different. "That cat is big, that cat is small, both cats are brown".
- Play "over and under" using a ball, roll the ball fast, roll it slow.
- Have a conversation, ask you child what happened at school.
This is a wonderful time for you and your child, enjoy it. Continue to encourage learning through you everyday activities.
