GLEN FLORA'S HOMEWORK POLICY

The Glen Flora School Community wants to assist students in developing habits and skills of independent study and encourage responsibility. Learning does not stop at the end ofthe school day when the bell rings. Our school community is concerned with children's habit formation, and we know positive habits are best built with consistent reinforcement from home. Independent study is an important habit and homework can be a strong tool for helping children acquire the habit of study.

Ideally, parents will expect their children to study at home for a period of time each school day, and teachers will consistently assign homework. Thus, the habit of studying is established by both home and school. Learning time is extended beyond the regular school day.

BIRTHDAY RECOGNITION

Recognition of a child's birthday at school is permissible. Treats may be sent to school and may be passed out on birthdays after making arrangements with your child's teacher. Gum should not be included as a treat. Some parents have preferred to donate a book to the school library in the child's name. Birthday party invitations cannot be passed out at school.

HEALTH PROCEDURES

In the case of an accident, the school personnel provide first aid and make every effort to contact the parent. When we are unable to make contact, or in case of serious accidents, the paramedics will be called.

When a child is ill at school, we will make efforts to contact the parent and/or emergency person listed on the family information portion off the student profile sheet. It is imperative that you keep this information accurate and up to date during the school year. Please call us when you have a change.

Keep in mind that it is important for children to be in school every day. However, home is the best place for a child who is ill.

VISION AND HEARING SCREENING
