Computer Literacy Skills
Computer Literacy Skills as they appear in Grade Level Brochures:
Kindergarten | Grade 1 | Grade 2 | Grade 3 | Grade 4 | Grade 5 | Grade 6 | Grade 7 | Grade 8 |
Kindergarten Computer Literacy Skills Introduced:
1. Use appropriate terminology for computer parts and functions
2. Demonstrate ability to turn on , shutdown, use mouse, open/close application.
2. Use Word processing to create text document (type name, letters, numbers, and simple words)
3. Select Drawing or Painting tools for art/graphic application to document. (use draw tools/ add clip art)
4. Use subject/ grade specific software for skill practice and original document creation.
5. Import data using keyboard ( use letter keys, number keys , non alphanumeric keys such as arrows and return)
6. Distinguish right from left, use home-row with thumbs on space bar.
7. Demonstrate use of delete key.
Grade One Computer Literacy Skills Introduced:
1. Publish documents using word processing application to author sentences.
2. Open files on launcher.
3. Open/ quit program from diskette or CD-ROM.
4. Choose text style, format for document type.
5. Create single column documents.
6. Demonstrate procedure for saving a file.
7. Demonstrate procedure for printing a file.
Grade Two Computer Literacy Skills Introduced:
1. Input data using correct fingering on keyboard, use shift key to capitalize letters.
2. Create multiple column document.
3. Apply appropriate electronic resource to given task such as spell check.
4. Perform math operations using computer calculator.
5. Correctly uses scroll arrow and slide bar.
6. Create simple slide show that imports text and graphics.
7. Save information imported to new location in folder on desktop.
8. Send e-mail with teacher assistance.
Grade Three:
1. Use appropriate terminology for peripheral technology components (scanner, digital camera, printer )
2. Use Multimedia application for multimedia presentations including simple web authoring applications for Web publishing.
3. Apply appropriate electronic resource to given task such as use electronic dictionary
4. Publish document using word processing application to author original paragraph.
5. Use a spreadsheet to generate bar, circle, line graphs.
6. Create multimedia presentation / Slide show including digital photos, scanned images, and sound.
7. Save information imported to new location on diskette/external storage devices or new folder.
8. Open and send e-mail with teacher assistance.
Grade Four Computer Literacy Skills Introduced:
1. Utilize Database to organize/sort raw data (three fields/ four entries)
2. Apply appropriate electronic resource to given task such as use of electronic thesaurus.
3. Use word processing application to author multiple paragraph document .
4. Author brochure/newsletter using ClarisWorks or like word processing application.
5. Create multimedia presentation / Slide show including digital photos, scanned images,quick time movies, sound and text from word processing .
6. Demonstrate ability to format and name disk.
7. Demonstrate appropriate actions when screen is frozen- force restart, quit.
8. Generate spreadsheet to generate graphs including: labels, input numeric data, change colors for chart display.
Grade Five Computer Literacy Skills Introduced:
1. Select appropriate simulation/ reference software for content practice and exploration.
2. Use word processing application to author multi page reports.
3. Create, organize and manipulate data with a database (5 fields/10 entries)
4. Create multimedia presentation / Slide show with non linear action and with video imports, Internet links.(use plug in such as Hyperstudio Internet tool)
5. Demonstrate ability to work with simultaneous running applications.
6. Export chart generated in spreadsheet to other application.
7. Independently open and send e-mail documents.
8. Use teacher created bookmarks for Internet research.
Grade Six Computer Literacy Skills Introduced:
1. Manipulate data with spreadsheet functions.
2. Create, organize and manipulate data with a database sorting raw data .
3. Locate information using keyword searches with search engines.
4. Create own bookmarks for Internet research.
5. Create complex slide show/ multimedia presentations using Internet links, digitized video clips original sound imports to communicate information with real audience.
6. Produce and edit original documents using word processing application, includes proper use of tabs, font, size, style, alignment, working from multiple windows.
Grade Seven Computer Literacy Skills Introduced:
1. Locate data using newgroups, list servs.
2. Use formulas/formats to organize data in spreadsheet
3. Use spreadsheet- X/Y line, generate scatter coordinate graphs
4. Identify best location to save data independently
5. Demonstrate ability to select best resource for data required (CD-ROM, online resources)
6. Copy and save Internet bookmarks to diskette for back up and moving to new location.
Grade Eight Computer Literacy Skills Introduced:
1. Demonstrate ability to create, select, send and retrieve attachments to e-mail
2. Perform mathematical operations using formulas/function to organize/ analyze data in spreadsheet
3. Participate in collaborative projects with other locations via video-conferencing - preparing data and assisting making arrangements for conferences.
4. Demonstrate ability to choose multimedia tool best suited to present information to real audience.
5. Use HTML programming to create web pages.
6. Create an informational system by linking web pages.
