What's New
Dear Parents,
We have had an amazingly successful year at McCall. Our Reading First program has been instrumental in teaching our primary grade students how to read. School wide programs have included An American Readers, Family Reading Club with trip to see Polar Express, Family Reading Night, Leprechaun Trap Inventions, Science Fair Projects, and the Around the World project. Two teachers have had grants approved for innovative curriculum development for next year. This kind of hard work and dedication is what wins McCall state recognition. Again this year McCall School was recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education for continued improvement on the ISAT. Our teachers have succeeded in having our students meet or exceed state standards on the ISAT for the past four years. Thank you for your support in making that happen.
Last month you had the opportunity to respond to a survey. You were asked whether you would support our students wearing uniforms; 77% of you responded "YES". With parent support the Waukegan Public School Board passed a Uniform Dress Code Policy for 2005-06 for elementary and middle schools. At McCall School the color of the clothes will change but the standards will not. As before the following is not allowed: shorts or skirt lengths above the knee, stretch pants, tank tops, oversized pants, shirts exposing mid-sections or chests. For next year the following additions will be added: NO jeans, NO shirts with designs, NO sweat pants, NO shirts without collars, NO t-shirts.
The uniform will consist of:
Solid navy blue and white colors only, no printing except McCall School logo where applicable
- Navy blue pants, jumpers, skirts, skorts, shorts, all of which need to be at least to the top of the knee
- White or navy shirt with collar, long or short sleeve, or turtleneck, mock turtleneck, or polo solid white or navy blue
- Navy blue or white sweater, pullovers, sleeveless, or cardigan
- McCall navy blue sweatshirt (those sold for the past 3 years at McCall)
- Black shoes are encouraged, but gym shoes are acceptable
The clothing does not have to come from a "uniform" store. Clothing that is solid navy or white is sold in many stores. Some stores that sell uniform clothing are Target, Kmart, Sears, J.C. Penney, Burlington Coat, Kids Mart, Kids R Us, and X- Credit Uniforms (next to Burlington Coat Factory at Gurnee Mills).
I do hope that as you buy new clothes for your children you will buy uniforms. I would like to see all of our students in the Board approved uniform in the fall.
Thank you for a wonderful year! Please have a safe summer and enjoy your children. They grow up too fast!!

TO OUR STUDENTS: Turn off the TV and video games, enjoy the weather, and READ!
