Hearing and Vision

Adequate hearing and vision is essential for your child's academic success. Your child's hearing and vision will be screened at school at designated grades. However, anytime you feel your child may have hearing or vision concerns, please consult with your child's school nurse. An examination by a doctor may be necessary to correctly diagnose and treat any hearing or vision problems.

Signs that a vision problem may exist include rubbing of the eyes, complaint of tired eyes after reading, difficulty seeing the blackboard, difficulty copying words from the board to the paper, and sitting closer than normal to the television.

Signs that a hearing problem may exist include turning up the volume on television or radio louder than normal, pulling on the ears, difficulty hearing when the speaker's mouth cannot be seen, and turning one ear towards the source of the sound.

If you notice any of these signs, or have any other concerns about your child's vision or hearing, consult with your child's school nurse or doctor.

If you take your child to an eye or ear doctor, please submit a copy of the medical findings to your child's school nurse.

If your child is in need of an eye exam and/or glasses, financial assistance may be available. Please contact your school nurse.
