Welcome Back

Dear Parents, Teachers, Paraprofessionals and Related Service Staff,

Helen Keller once said, "Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much". As special education teachers, paraprofessionals and related services staff you have the ability to work together to positively impact our students, parents and the Division of Specialized Service as a whole.

This school year we will have many challenges as well as the opportunity to work together to benefit the education of all students. IDEA has been reauthorized and the new State regulations have recently been released. Our charge as special educators is to ensure federal and state compliance, to ensure students with special needs receive a free and appropriate education and provided scientifically based interventions in the least restrictive environment.

Response to intervention is a district initiative supported by both federal and state mandates that utilizes data to make decisions to provide appropriate interventions to ensure all children achieve adequately for their age or meet grade-level standards. RtI also ensures that appropriate students are identified for special education as well as that each child is receiving appropriate instruction.

The Division of Specialized Instructional Programs and Services will work towards achieving our District's mission statement in everything we do as well as striving towards each and every newly adopted vision and belief statements as identified below.

Together We Can...

Identify, address and provide academic, social and emotional support of our diverse learning community.
  • Challenge, teach, and inspire all students to reach their full potential.
  • Problem solves utilizing data based decisions to ensure success for inclusive learning communities.
  • Maintain effective and timely systemic communication throughout the organization based on uniform and consistent expectations, procedures, and best practice.
  • Build and maintain positive, cohesive, collegial relationships.
  • Ensure a safe, healthy, and supportive learning environment.
  • Promote partnerships between family, community and school to effectively challenge all students academically and socially.
I am looking forward to an effective an productive 2007-2008 school year.

Sincerely,

Janine Gruhn
