You can use many word processors, like AppleWorks and Word, to help you create HTML formatted text or convert documents you have already made, like a newsletter, in a word processor.

Using AppleWorks:

  1. In AppleWorks, create your document as you normally would using formatting options such as bold, italic, and colors.
  2. Save your document.
  3. Save your file in HTML by choosing “Save As” from the file menu, selecting HTML from the drop down menu, and naming the file with .html at the end. For example, mycalendar.html.
  4. Open the .html file you just saved. You will see that AppleWorks added HTML tags to make your text formatted for your web page.
  5. Select all the text that is between <BODY> and </BODY>. Do not include the <BODY> and </BODY> tags.
  6. Select “Copy” from the edit menu.
  7. Close the window and do not save.
  8. Go back to your browser (Manila web site).
  9. Make sure you are logged in. (See Login to Your Site.)
  10. Edit or create the story that the document, that you copied above, will be placed in. (See Editing a Story and / or Creating a Story.)
  11. Place your cursor in the “Text” section and select Paste from the Edit menu. What you copied from AppleWorks is now in the “Text” section.
  12. Click “Post Changes” button. You should see the updated story. If you don’t, click the reload button. Note: If you do not see the text that you pasted, check what you pasted. Make sure you did not include any thing before the “<Body>” and after the “</Body>.” If you still can’t get it to work, ask for help within your building or give Joe a call at x217. Don’t fret this is HTML programming.
  13. If you are done editing your site, log out.
