Getting Started

Are you ready to get started?

Welcome to waukeganschools.org where you can easily create your own web site. While it is possible to create sites with very advanced forms of media it is best to start basic and put most of your energy into the content. The good news is that getting the content on your site is very easy as you'll see in the following examples.

Where is my site?

When you want to tell people where to find your site, you will give them the address that looks like http://www.waukeganschools.org/username/, where username is your web site name. Your site name is usually your first initial of your first name and your last name. Thus, the address of Joe Frichtl's web site is: http://www.waukeganschools.org/jfrichtl/

How do I edit my site?

When it is time to update your site the only thing you will need is a web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Safari, etc.) and a network connection. That means that if you have a modem or broadband connection at home, you can update your web site from home. When you are ready to update your web site, launch your web browser. Once your browser is started, enter the address:

http://www.waukeganschools.org/username/member/login

Remember to place your own user name in the address as shown below.

You will then see the login page where you can enter your e-mail address and e-mail password to sign into the system.

Once you have logged in, you will be taken to your home page. The main thing to notice is that there is now an Editors Only menu at the top of the page. If not, click the reload button.

This menu allows you to edit many aspects of your site.

Logging Out

After you are done editing your web site, you need to log out!

[WARNING] The computer that you are using will ALWAYS be logged in until you log out. Restarting your computer and turning it off will NOT log you out.
