Need some ideas

Do you have a website and need some more ideas for content? Several content ideas are discussed in the first Manila Training however, we can't always cover everything. Here, I have compiled a few other examples of things to put up on your site. It's not a complete list and examples highlight a specific point. If you think you have a great site on our webserver and want it put here, email the webmanager.

Links page for class Internet resources. If you use multiple online products you could create a page that contains them all for quick Internet access. Or if you just have a list of links that you like, you could create a webpage for that.

Links for class created online stories or poems. You could input the work or you could create a page and allows your students to type their own work in.

See Greenwood's Olivia story

Monthly Star Program / Star of the Month. This is just like you might have in your class room. However, keep in mind not to post children's whole names and pictures. Perhaps, create a pseudonym or pen name for each student.

See Dennis Bade's Star of the Month

Blogged Home Page for multiple quick messages (covered in Discussion Groups class). This allows you to create a couple short messages to parents and students without a lot of time.

See WebCentral Home Page

Online Discussion Group for multiple responses to a given topic. Can be used as a classroom / homework assignment to post a response to a specific topic or as a follow up to a field trip. This can also be used for an online book discussion or as a bulletin board for parents to post comments. This one has endless possibilities for classroom / school use.

See CSP Chemistry website. Look through the navigation menu to see different class discussions.

General Website Use
I have chosen a few examples from the Waukegan Schools website that use classroom web space well. Also remember that if you have teams at your school that you can create whole team sites. This will cut down the postings for individual teachers.

Various examples of Teacher / Team Websites:

For all those who are new or just not used to creating class websites, please bear some simple thoughts in mind. No site was created in one day. If fact most of our better teachers sites have been and still are, works in progress. You can create a base amout of your content when you have a few hours to devote. Then just add content when you have some time to spare. You do not need to update your site with a lot of content often. Just add a little content often to keep your site current. Most of all, have fun with your site. It's an extension of your creativity and your kids will enjoy seeing their own class website.
