Adding a File

What is a Gem?

Older versions of Manila refered to any file you uploaded to your site as a “Gem”. This term is no longer used, but you may see it in older documents on Web Central. You can upload most types of files. The most common types are:

  • QuickTime Movies
  • Hyperstudio Stacks
  • Flash Animations
  • PDF Documents
  • Word Documents
  • PowerPoint Presentations

Setting up your website for (Flash, Quicktime or Hyperstudio)

Before you start using multimedia files you will need to setup your website to allow the <embed> tag. (For files types that display on their own page (e.g. PDF Documents, PowerPoint Presentations), this setup is not needed.)

This one-time setup is covered in detail in Manila Phase II.

  1. In the Editors Only menu, click Prefs.
  2. Click Advanced in the navigation menu.
  3. On the Advanced page, click on Legal Tags.
  4. Scroll down through the list and find embed. Click the checkbox so it is checked. (If it is already checked, you don't need to do anything.)
  5. Click Submit.

Using this Page

  1. Upload your file via Upload a New File on the Files page of your site. (see Phase II Manual)
  2. Choose the multimedia type that you wist to use (QuickTime, HyperStudio, or Flash), fill out the appropriate form, click Continue.
