Student Conduct/ Discipline Information

IMPORTANT: REFER TO THE BOARD OF EDUCATION STUDENT DISCIPLINE POLICY MANUAL (REVISED JUNE 2004) FOR STUDENT EXPECTATIONS, TERMINOLOGY, STUDENT INFRACTIONS, DISCIPLINARY CONSEQUENCES,AND OTHER RELATED MATTERS.

This document was distributed and signed by each student during schedule pick-up at the start of the school year.

Plagiarism is the claiming of someone else's work as one's own. It is both illegal and wrong. The Waukegan High School staff believes it also discourages intellectual inquiry and the acquisition of important skills. When students turn in someone else's work with the intention of receiving credit for that work, they are committing plagiarism. Students should not quote, paraphrase, or use the ideas of anyone without proper citation. The content, form, and style of the student's writing must be his or her own.Any student caught plagiarizing will receive a zero for that assignment and is open to further disciplinary action according to the Waukegan High School disciplinary code.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Tape players, Walkman, Disc Man, MP3, radios, headphones, beepers and other electronic gadgets are not to be brought to school. Such items found in school will be-confiscated and turned over to the parent.

Cell Phone Policy: Students may have cell phones on school grounds, but their use is limited to outside the school hours of 7:00 AM -3:30 PM. During the school day, cell phones must be in the OFF mode-incapable of receiving an active signal-and out of sight in lockers, back packs, book bags, pockets or purses. Cell phones may not be used while riding on District-provided transportation (e.g., on field trips). The activity sponsor may allow use of cell phones during extracurricular activities.

Students are solely responsible for their cell phones. Students who use or possess cell phones for unlawful purposes will be subject to more severe disciplinary action. Action: 1st, confiscation, parent notification, detention (phone may be returned to the student after the detention is served); 2nd, confiscation, Saturday detention, phone may be returned only to the parent; 3rd, confiscation, viewed as insubordination, phone may be returned to parent.
