Graduation Requirements
In order to earn a diploma from Waukegan High School, a student must earn a minimum of 22 credits within the Seven Essential Areas of Study (SEAS). The fulfillment of these requirements will produce citizens who are lifelong learners able to thrive in a changing world.
GRADUATION RESIDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS In order to be eligible for graduation from Waukegan High School, a
student must have attended this school at least one full semester and met all graduation requirements. A student who transfers into Waukegan High School and cannot meet the graduation requirements here may transfer his/her credits earned here to a former school for evaluation and possibly graduate from that school.
THE ESSENTIAL AREAS OF STUDY All high school courses have been listed on one or more of the following . Essential Areas of Study in the Course Offering Guide:
- Applied Arts
- Language Arts
- Fine Arts
- Social Sciences and Global Studies
- Mathematics and Science
- Individual Enhancement Electives
- Physical Education, Health, and Driver Education
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS (Required courses are listed in the Course Offering Outline)
2 years of Mathematics 1 year of Science 1 year of electives from Mathematics and Science 3 years of English
1 year of electives from Language Arts 1 year United States History 2 years of electives from Social Sciences/Global Studies area
1 year of Applied Technology (which must be made up of 1 Semester each of Consumer Education/Career Exploration & Exploring Technology)
1 year of Fine Arts 3 years Physical Education
1 semester of Health Education
1 semester of Driver Education
1 credit of electives from any essential area of study
3 years of electives from the Applied Technology/Fine Arts
Passing a course that meets 5 days per week for a semester earns .50, credits.

EARLY GRADUATION REQUEST Students applying for early graduation must apply no later than October 29 to the Guidance Department. Exceptions must have the principal's approval. Students must complete all requirements and remain in school for the full semester term.
