Driver's Education
Waukegan High School District No. 60 shall offer a driver training course as required by the School Code in Section 27-24.2.
One of the key elements of the "Graduate to Safety" law effective January 1, 1998, is to help you become more involved in preparing yourself to be a more responsible driver.Teens who are licensed on January 1,1998 or after are required to hold their instruction permit for a minimum of three months. This law requires the parent to certify that the teen has completed at least 25 hours of supervised behind-the-wheel training outside of a driver education class. This certification must accompany the blue slip for issuance of a driver's license. Either a parent or a person acting in their place that is at least 21 years of age and has held a valid license for at least one year must supervise these extra hours of training. You should also be aware that under the "Use It or Lose It" law, drivers under 21 caught with even a trace of alcohol in their systems would lose their driving privileges.
Safe driving practices require responsible behavior. Pupils shall qualify for entry into the driver education sequence of classroom instruction and practice driving based upon age and demonstration of responsible behavior.
- The classroom instruction and the practice driving part of the driver education course shall be open to a resident or non-resident pupil attending a non-public school in the school district and to each resident of District No. 60 who acquires or holds a currently valid driver's license (or a learner's permit) during the term of the course and who is at least 15 but has not reached 21 years of age.
