NCAA GUIDE FOR THE COLLEGE-BOUND STUDENT ATHLETE
General Requirements: If you want to practice and play your freshman year at an NCAA Division I or Division II college, you must satisfy the requirements of NCAA Bylaw 14.3, commonly known as Proposition 48. Bylaw 14.3 requires you to:
- Graduate from high school
- Attain a grade point average of 2.0 (based on a maximum of 4.0) in a successfully completed core curriculum including at least three years of English, two years of math, two years of social studies, and two years in natural or physical science (including at least one laboratory class,if offered by the high school).
- Achieve an 82O-combined score on the SAT verbal and math sections
or a 68-combined score on the ACT. The athletic office has further information for your convenience.
INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETICS The Central Suburban League is an organization of high schools as an athletic conference. The present members are Evanston, Niles North, New Trier, Deerfield, Glenbrook North, Glenbrook South, Highland Park, Niles West, Maine East, Maine West, Maine South, and Waukegan. The league has two divisions, northern and southern, and membership in these divisions is determined on a school size. The Central Suburban League is recognized as one of the strongest athletic leagues in the state, and it carries great prestige in high school athletic circles. With the exception of intramurals, a full Central Suburban League schedule is in effect in all sports. Waukegan High School has a very proud athletic tradition that is based on the philosophy that good students make good athletes. Therefore. to be a member of a Bulldog team. a student is expected to be doing oassing work in all of his courses. If a student decides to become a member of an athletic team, the coach will explain our academic expectations.
