Enrollment, Credits, Prerequisites, Duration of Programs, Cosmetology Hours

ENROLLMENT PROCEDURES
LCHS Tech Campus requirements for "student" enrollment are as follows:

  1. The student must be currently enrolled at one of the LCHS Tech Campus participating high schools or must be an eligible student from a parochial/private school who resides in a participating district
  2. The student must be a junior or senior, or must be 16 years of age by January 1st of his/her first semester of LCHS Tech Campus attendance
  3. The student must be recommended by the home school

STUDENTS who do not meet this residency requirement and who would like to enroll in a Tech Campus program, must petition the LCHS Tech Campus Director and Board of Control for acceptance. Students may enroll for a Tech Campus course with their home school counselor during the usual period of registration for the following year. An LCHS Tech Campus application form must be completed by the student and ALL appropriate signatures are required. A student who is recommended by the home school is automatically accepted at the Tech Campus.

CREDITS
Because each of the participating high school districts has its own graduation requirements, curriculum and method of assigning credits, each district will determine and assign the amount of credit for courses taken by its students at the Tech Campus. The LCHS Tech Campus Board of Control has approved a maximum of 3 credits per year for all courses at the Tech Campus, except for Cosmetology, which offers a maximum 3H credit per year (i~e., per 750 clock hours). In all cases, the home high school will determine the number of credits to be awarded a student for a course taken at the Tech Campus.

PREREQUISITES
Because the Tech Campus supplements the vocational/technical training that is provided by 19 high schools, it is not possible to establish uniform and consistent prerequisites for courses. Therefore, there are no Tech Campus established prerequisites for courses offered at the Tech Campus with two exceptions: Typing 1/Keyboarding as a prerequisite for Administrative Office Technology; and Drafting 1/Geometry as a prerequisite for Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD).

DURATION OF PROGRAMS
Every course at the LCHS Tech Campus will be offered for two years. Students may take a course for one year only or continue in that course a second year for more advanced training. In some cases, students may take a course for one semester only; this arrangement must be made and approved by the student's home school counselor/coordinator.

COSMETOLOGY HOURS
Cosmetology students are required by law to have 1500 clock hours of training prior to taking the Illinois State Board Examination. Cosmetology students are offered the following hours of training and clinical experience:

1,514 Hours - Total hours available during the two-year Program excluding additional session Requests/competitions

*The following seventeen (17) Saturdays have been designated for the 2004-2005 school year:

Tech Campus will send a letter in August providing the seventeen (17) Saturdays required for attendance during the school year.

NOTE: Junior cosmetology students MUST accumulate a total of 750 hours at the end of their junior year to return as a second year cosmetology student. Administrative review and consideration will be made for those students not meeting this requirement if there is a verified medical illness or other good and sufficient cause.

Cosmetology students may receive additional hours by participating in competitions and cosmetology shows, and by attending additional sessions when their home school is NOT in session. Cosmetology students requesting to attend additional sessions other than their regular session when their home school is NOT in session may do so on a space available basis; they MUST complete a "Permission Slip to Attend Additional Sessions" form with all requested signatures prior to the requested day; and if driving to/from the Tech Campus, complete a "Temporary Permit to Drive" form. Both forms are available in the front office.

First year cosmetology students MUST purchase a cosmetology kit. This kit includes uniforms, textbooks, and all materials and supplies. The kit cost is $400.00 for the 2004-2005 school year and is due upon receipt of the kit. Second year students MUST purchase a new smock and may need to update their cosmetology and nail kit.
