Mission Statement
To impact the lifestyle of the Waukegan School Students we serve, with meaningful education, beneficial health activities, nourishing food, and to pursue/role-model a healthy lifestyle.
Educational Focus This Month
"The Daily Healthy Beverage Guidelines" proposed by a panel of nutritional experts. "The proposed Healthy Beverage Guidelines were created by a panel of nutrition experts to help Americans make beverage choices. According to these proposed Guidelines, women should drink 9 eight-ounce servings of beverages each day and men should drink 13. To make the most of your daily beverage allotment, choose beverages from the different levels." Water, up to 9 servings for women, and 13 for men. Tea or coffee are the next level, up to 4 servings of coffee, and 8 servings of tea - both unsweetened. Then up to 2 servings of skim/low-fat milk. Next level to select from: 100% Fruit juices, Diet Soft Drinks, and juice drinks.You can select beverages from the different levels - the focus suggested is to avoid caffeine, empty calories, and soft drinks. Pregnant women and those who have specific nutrition requirements should consult their doctor.
