Code Red Procedures

Code Red is a situation when a threat to students and staff exists within the building.

Staff and students will be notified of a Code Red via the Intercom with the following announcement:

Attention all staff and students, this is a Code Red; follow your code red procedures.

Following the announcement:

Students should:

  • Stay calm and orderly.
  • Remain inside or enter the nearest classroom or secure location.
  • Be as quiet as possible and move away from doors and windows.
  • Follow instructions from staff members.

Teachers and any other staff member supervising students should:

  • Stay calm; students will follow your lead.
  • Clear the area outside the classroom / office / gym doors.
Remember everyone should go to the nearest secure location, not necessarily his or her assigned classroom.
  • Lock the door.
  • Turn out lights and close blinds.
  • Move students away from doors and windows so that they are not visible from the hallway or outside the building.
  • Keep everyone as quiet as possible.
  • Do not respond to knocks at the door (even if they identify themselves as police officers) or to noise in the hallway.
  • Wait for a Code Green announcement via the intercom.
